Contraception Choices: Understanding Your Options

Hormonal Contraception:

Hormonal contraception offers a wide range of options to support women’s reproductive health, from daily combined and progestogen-only pills to longer-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) such as hormonal intrauterine systems and contraceptive implant.

Benefits of Hormonal Contraception:

Reliable: When taken correctly, hormonal methods like the Pill offer high efficacy rates.
Cycle Regulation: They can help regulate menstrual cycles and reduce menstrual cramps.
Reduced Bleeding: Often, they lead to lighter and shorter periods for some individuals.
Control Over Periods: Some formulations allow control over when periods occur.

Non-Hormonal Contraception:

For those seeking hormone-free options, non-hormonal contraceptives offer a compelling choice.

Benefits of Non-Hormonal Contraception:

Hormone-Free: Suitable for individuals looking to avoid hormonal side effects.
Quick Reversibility: Fertility returns promptly after removal, allowing for family planning flexibility.
Convenient and Effective: Offers reliable contraception without daily maintenance.

Understanding the differences between hormonal and non-hormonal contraception can help you make an informed decision. It’s essential to consult with a healthcare professional to determine which method aligns best with your lifestyle, health considerations, and preference.

*Other temporary barrier methods include condoms (male and female), diaphragms, cervical caps, and contraceptive sponges

Yanae® is a small, Y-shaped copper intrauterine device (coil). It is free from hormones, allowing your natural cycle to continue.¹

Yanae® has been designed using a membrane to help the insertion, aiming for a more comfortable experience for women.² In most cases, no tenaculum (a surgical instrument used to hold the cervix) or uterine sounding (measuring the depth of the uterus) is required, which should mean a quicker and possibly less painful procedure.³ However, you may experience some cramping.

Yanae offers up to 5 years contraception and is reversible on removal. It offers over 99% effectiveness and can also be used as emergency contraception if inserted within 5 days after unprotected sex.²
